Aventura Condo Microcement Feature Wall

A microcement feature wall in an Aventura condo — designed to add architectural interest to a modern high-rise interior while remaining condo-friendly and clean. This project demonstrates how microcement can serve as a modern feature wall in a residential high-rise.

The Challenge

The homeowner — a young professional who had recently purchased the condo — wanted to add a design element to the main living area without major renovation. The condo had been delivered with standard builder-grade finishes: white walls, beige tile floors, and a neutral color palette.

The goal was to create a feature wall that would add depth and texture to the space while remaining modern, minimal, and appropriate for the condo’s architecture.

Given the building’s rules on construction noise and mess, the finish also had to be applied cleanly — no demolition, no significant dust, no extended work hours.

The Solution

We proposed microcement for the main living room wall — a seamless, cement-based finish that could be applied directly over the existing drywall without demolition. The color was a warm taupe with subtle textural depth.

Microcement was chosen over Venetian plaster for two reasons: its industrial-chic aesthetic fit the condo’s modern design language, and its application process is cleaner and quieter than most alternatives.

The Process

Day 1 — Surface Preparation. The wall was cleaned, repaired, and primed with a bonding primer. Given the building’s rules, we used dust-containment barriers and worked during permitted hours.

Days 2–3 — Base Coats. Two base coats of microcement were applied, each troweled thinly and allowed to cure.

Days 4–5 — Finish Coats. Two finish coats of pigmented microcement were applied and sanded between coats to achieve a smooth, seamless surface.

Day 6 — Sealing and Inspection. A protective sealer was applied. The finish was reviewed with the homeowner.

The Result

The microcement feature wall transformed the main living area. Against the beige floors and neutral furnishings, the warm taupe microcement reads as both modern and grounded. The wall has a subtle depth that paint cannot replicate.

The homeowner’s comment: “It looks custom — like it was always supposed to be there.”

Two years later, the finish remains in excellent condition with no cracking, no fading, and no maintenance beyond routine dusting.
