Architectural Venetian Plaster Specification Checklist

Field specification protocol for architects, interior designers, and general contractors. Verify Level 5 drywall prep, quartz primers, Pavan trowel burnishing, and hydrophobic waxing.

Verification Progress: 0 of 16 Passed0% Complete

Phase 1: Substrate Preparation & Level 5 Spec

Verify drywall installation complies with ASTM C840 Level 5 specification (skim coated smooth).Ensure joint compound is fully cured and sanded with zero gouges, ridge marks, or dust.Test substrate moisture content using a pinless moisture meter (must be below 12%).Confirm surface flatness tolerance does not exceed 1/8 inch deviation over 10 linear feet.

Phase 2: Mineral Primer & Keying Coat

Apply one coat of acrylic mineral quartz keying primer using a 3/8-inch nap roller.Ensure complete 100% surface opacity with aggregate evenly distributed for mechanical bond.Allow primer to cure for a minimum of 12 hours prior to plaster basecoat application.

Phase 3: Base Coat & Fiberglass Mesh Reinforcement

Embed 4.5 oz alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh across drywall joint seams and corners.Trowel uniform 1.0mm to 1.5mm scratch coat of Marmorino Coarse or Intonachino base.Allow base coat to dry for 24 hours until carbonization initiates.

Phase 4: Finish Troweling & Mechanical Burnishing

Apply second coat of Grassello di Calce or Marmorino Fine using Pavan stainless beveled trowel.Apply tight third coat in sweeping random arc motions to generate multi-dimensional depth.Burnish surface using high-pressure stainless blade passes while wet edge cures.

Phase 5: Hydrophobic Sealing & Protection

Allow plaster to dry 48 hours before wax or soap sealer application.Trowel or sponge natural Marseille olive oil soap or hydrophobic paste wax sealer.Buff sealer with clean microfiber cloth to lock in hydrophobic protection.
